Dr. Jelmer Cleveringa

Dr. Cleveringa is an experienced consultant and researcher in the field of coastal morphology. He has led in several complex projects that covered shoreline management, coastal evolution and tidal inlet dynamics.

At Alkyon, he is involved in various projects that encompass the evolution of tidal basins and tidal inlets, the migration of tidal channels, coastal defence schemes. Specific interest has developed in the link between morphology, hydrodynamic and ecology and this has led to major studies on the evolution of the Voordelta and the Westernscheldt .

In his previous position at Rijkswaterstaat RIKZ (Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management) he has contributed to the shoreline maintenance, safety against flooding and coastal zone management  of the Netherlands . This involved consultation for sand nourishments at or near tidal inlets, field measurements, sand mining and dune restoration.

The foundation of his field of expertise is his study in geology and his PhD–research of the Holocene evolution of the Dutch coasts.
