Mr. Eelke Folmer
Eelke Folmer is an ecologist specialized in theoretical, spatial, terrestrial
and marine ecology. At Alkyon he is part of the ecomorphology team that
investigates the reciprocal relationship between organisms and their (abiotic)
environment.
For his PhD research Eelke focussed on low-tide shorebird distributions in
relation to resources, the abiotic environment and each other (conspecifics). In
this context he developed and applied spatial statistical models (particularly
spatial autoregressive models). He has also done research on the spatial
distribution of seagrass at the Banc d’Arguin in
Mauretania
to determine the impact of seagrass on sedimentation and vice versa. For that
purpose use was made of remote sensing, classification algorithms and for
estimation of the reciprocal effects, structural equation modeling (SEM).
