Mr. Wojciech Misiag
Dr. Eng. Misiag has over 20 years of
professional experience. He started his carrier with Gdansk University of
Technology, working on panel methods, software development projects and training
of mariners using manned ship models. From the end of 1989 he studied and worked
in
Japan
. After obtaining his degree he worked as an assistant professor at
Hiroshima
University
, working on ship manoeuvrability prediction, human factors in ship nautical
operations and ship handling simulators development. From 1994 he worked at a
consulting company Yusen Marine Science Inc., where he developed real-time ship-
handling simulators, performed mathematical modelling of ship manoeuvring
motions and advised clients on the nautical safety of harbours and waterways.
From 1998 he worked at Gdansk University of Technology as an adjunct professor,
teaching computational fluid dynamics, software development and numerical
methods. At the same time he was employed at Ship Research and Design Centre (
Gdansk
Model
Basin
) as a specialist in ship manoeuvring, where he developed simulation models,
performed ship model tests for manoeuvrability design and developed technology
for captive manoeuvring model tests. He advised on manoeuvrability aspects of
ship design and was involved in international projects related to
standardisation of naval ship manoeuvrability and to the performance of ships in
harbours.
From 2005 he worked for Foundation for Safety of Navigation and Environment
Protection as a specialist in ship manoeuvring. He prepared and managed the ship
handling training for shipmasters and marine pilots using manned model
technology. He participated in the development of new training ship models and
training programmes. He also performed model tests on ship manoeuvring in
harbour areas and advised on the novel designs of ships with POD
propulsion-control systems.
From June 2007 he has been working for Alkyon Hydraulic Consultancy &
Research. He advises on the development of the waterways and harbour systems
from the nautical safety view point, develops simulation models for ship
manoeuvring and for ship motions, and works on the mathematical and physical
modelling of ship behaviour in harbour areas.
Mr. Misiag has experience in performing nautical studies on harbour and waterway
safety, combined with practical and theoretical knowledge of modelling of ship
behaviour in harbour and waterway areas.
