Mr. Jan Onassis

Mr. Onassis has over 20 years of professional experience. He started his carrier with IHC Smit  assisting in the development of dredger software. Subsequently he was employed at TNO, The Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research, where he developed mathematical models for ship manoeuvring, risk assessment and industrial applications.
From 1989 until May 1996 he worked at Delft Hydraulics as a member of its Harbour Group and headed the Ship Hydromechanics Section.
He participated in a large number of harbours and access channel projects. During his employment at Delft Hydraulics he was Project Manager of all the scale model tests in this field. Also he guided all navigational studies for the Barrow access channel in the UK , including the set-up of an integrated system for pilots, ship, tugs and harbour control for allowing safe transit of large navy submarines.
As from May 1996 Mr. Onassis is employed at Alkyon Hydraulic Consultancy & Research. At Alkyon he completed detailed scale model investigations into a ferry linkspan accident in Ramsgate (UK) for Lloyd’s Register of Shipping. Also he carried out numerous moored ship and navigation studies including inland waterway transport and developed Alkyon’s integrated simulation model SHIP for manoeuvring and moored ships. He guided several large nautical oriented studies regarding vessel access and operations for the proposed expansion of Rotterdam Europort (Maasvlakte II), including 3-dimensional flow modelling studies, wave propagation and related sea and inland vessel accessibility. He co-developed and executed numerical model applications for complex interlinked multi-body, spread-mooring and tug assisted offshore and inshore floating marine operations.
Mr. Onassis has ample experience with managing large ship related nautical and infrastructural projects and combines this with in depth expertise of numerical simulations and physical scale modelling.
