Dr. Henk J. Steetzel

Dr. Steetzel holds the position of Director of Special Products. He has approximately 23 years of experience in research and consultancy in the field of hydraulic and coastal engineering. During this period he has continuously worked as a research & development officer for Dutch Public Works coastal projects. The types of activities include development of computer models, physical and computer modelling. In this work Mr. Steetzel has developed several mathematical models on dune erosion, cross-shore and longshore sediment transport, and large-scale coastal behaviour. He has carried out many physical model investigations up to a near-prototype scale, to verify these models. This was also the subject of his impressive Ph.D. thesis, which has drawn world-wide attention. Mr. Steetzel combines a sound theoretical insight in coastal engineering with a good practical approach. On this basis he has given advises on required coastal protection measures worldwide. Mr. Steetzel participates in Dutch research programs and is a member of the Dutch Technical Committee on Water Defences (TAW/ENW).
