Mr. Rob Steijn

Mr. Steijn holds the position of Director Coastal & Marine Systems. He has more than twenty years experience in marine and coastal engineering and is a specialist in coastal morphodynamics and coastal inlets. He has participated as team member and as project manager in a large number of harbour, coastal defence and ICZM projects, in which sophisticated mathematical models were frequently applied. In his capacity as coastal expert he has performed many expert missions, which aimed at an early assessment of the causes behind coastal problems and the identification of possible solution strategies. He was involved in the design of coastal protection and development projects in many countries, such as The Gambia, Ghana , Greece , the United Kingdom , Italy , Oman , Iran , United Arab Emirates , Brunei , Indonesia and Liberia , in studies and designs of ports and port extensions in Spain , India , Malaysia , Italy and Libya . He participated in major Dutch and EC-sponsored research programs and was involved in Technology Transfer programs in Taiwan and in Egypt . He has published several papers on topics in coastal engineering and coastal zone management. He further co-ordinates Alkyon’s initiatives on renewable low-head tidal-energy and has, together with other parties, developed large-scale spatial re-development plans for the Dutch Coastal Waters.
