Mr. Ferry Vis

Mr. Vis holds the position of Director Ports & Marine Structures. He has more than 30 years of experience in the port engineering. He was responsible for the design of various harbours and access channels, such as the masterplan of the northern extension of the Port of Poti, the masterplan of the Puerto América in Venezuela, masterplan on marine facilities at Saba, conceptual design of an oil terminal at Tuban in Indonesia, techno-economic analysis of the improvement of the entrance to the Port of Klaipeda in Lithuania, design of a new port near Tumpat in Malaysia, conceptual design of a coal jetty at San Bernardo in Venezuela, conceptual design of Galle container port in Sri Lanka, layout of Gadocto container port in Korea, Kelantan minor port, Bintulu port extension, Kayamkulam and Nandigur coal ports in India, the naval base at Karwar in India, the naval base Homs in Libya and the Ezzawia fishing port in Libya. To support these design services he carried out many physical and mathematical model investigations on wave penetration, motions of moored vessels, breakwater stability, forces on structures, piles and pipelines. He also carried out manoeuvring simulator investigations, dredging studies and studies on the impact of harbours on the coast. Mr. Vis started his career as a mathematician and still he has wide experience in the application of mathematical models to be used as tools in the design of ports. In this connection he was leading a working group on development of mathematical models for harbour design. He has widened his expertise to an overall experience in the hydraulic aspects of port design. From 1985 to 1995 Mr. Vis was the manager of Delft Hydraulics Harbour Group. During 7 years he also was the permanent advisor to NATO at Brussels on maritime affairs.
