HYDROBASE

HYDROBASE is a software package for the analysis of normal and extreme hydraulic conditions. Further, it is possible to transform normal and extreme conditions statistics to account for spatial variations in the conditions.

HYDROBASE presents the results of the analysis in the form of:

  • Wave and wind roses showing the distribution of wind and waves over direction;
  • Joint occurrence tables showing the frequency of occurrence of waves or winds in a number of height / speed and direction classes;
  • Persistency diagrams showing the range of durations for which conditions are exceeded;
  • Figures showing the percentage of the time that selected conditions are exceeded e.g. wave heights for waves in a given direction class;
  • Tables of extreme conditions with various return periods.

Further, the software can transform the conditions to other locations either on the basis of tables provided by the user (e.g. derived from numerical model results or fits to experimental data) or on the basis of internal models. These internal models all describe the generation or propagation of waves, including units to describe the effects of:

  • Wave generation by winds;
  • Fetch length restrictions;
  • Wave dissipation by breaking and bottom friction;
  • Shoaling and refraction over parallel depth contours;
  • Diffraction around breakwaters.

HYDROBASE is an in-house development of Alkyon Hydraulic Consultancy & Research.
